Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday nullified the impeachment of Philip Shuaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Omotosho ruled that the Edo State House of Assembly had failed to adhere to due process in the impeachment proceedings against Shuaibu. Consequently, the court ordered Shuaibu’s reinstatement.
Additionally, the court invalidated the appointment of Shuaibu’s successor, citing that the allegations used by the House of Assembly to justify the impeachment were legally untenable and did not amount to gross misconduct.
Justice Omotosho further directed the Inspector General of Police to ensure Shuaibu receives the necessary security to resume his duties and fulfill his role until the end of his tenure.
