The Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Sheikh Teliat Yunus Ayilara, has disclosed that the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, barred him from entering the palace and performing palace services and activities since February this year.
Ayilara made these claims in an interview on Sunday, revealing that the traditional ruler issued a letter in February, instructing him to refrain from participating in palace activities. The letter, dated 14th February 2024, was provided to us and stated that Ayilara should abstain from palace services due to a court case he had filed against the Soun and the Soun-in-Council.
The cleric expressed his frustration, noting that all attempts to contact the monarch have been unsuccessful. “The Soun has barred me from entering the palace and participating in its activities. He has excommunicated me, leaving no way to reach him,” Ayilara said.
Our reports indicate that tensions between the traditional ruler and the cleric have been ongoing for several months.
