Two Charged for Allegedly Stealing Cell Phone Valued at N139,000

Two individuals, Abdulateef Olasunkanmi and Sunday Morice, were arraigned on Wednesday before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing a cell phone valued at N139,000.

Olasunkanmi, 18, and Morice, 28, whose addresses were not provided, face charges of stealing, assault, and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, informed the court that the defendants, along with others who are currently at large, committed the offences at approximately 11:05 a.m. on June 12, at Arobilaye, Ota.

Adaraloye stated that Olasunkanmi and Morice conspired to assault the complainant, Zinsu Joseph, by physically attacking him. During the assault, they allegedly stole Joseph’s phone, which is valued at N139,000.

The prosecutor noted that the offences contravene Sections 390(9), 451, and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fadairo, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum. Fadairo stipulated that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, and present evidence of tax payment to the state government.

The case has been adjourned until June 20 for further hearing.
