Man Sentenced to Four Years for Removing Condom Without Consent in Rare Rape Case

Guy Mukendi, 39, has been sentenced to four years and three months in prison for removing a condom without consent during sex, a rare rape case. Following the assault, Mukendi sent messages to the victim attempting to justify his actions by claiming he had not had sex in a long time, before deleting the evidence.

The incident occurred in Brixton, south London, where a young woman reported the assault on 9 May last year. She had agreed to have sex with Mukendi on the condition that he used a condom. However, during the encounter, he removed the condom without her knowledge.

Mukendi was found guilty on 2 April and sentenced at Inner London Crown Court. The Metropolitan Police supported the victim through the ordeal and worked with her to obtain screenshots of Mukendi’s messages, which were crucial in securing his conviction.

Non-consensual condom removal is classified as rape under English and Welsh law, but prosecutions are rare due to under-reporting, according to the police.

Detective Constable Jack Earl, who led the investigation, said: “Throughout this investigation Mukendi denied any wrongdoing – but our officers built a compelling case against him to leave no doubt in the jury’s mind.

“We were dedicated to securing justice for the victim and will continue to raise awareness that this crime is a form of rape.

“The victim did the right thing to call the police straight away and her bravery should not be overshadowed.

“If you have been a victim of sexual violence and not yet reported it – please contact your local police service and we will do all that we can to help and bring you justice.”

Police urged anyone who is victim of non-consensual condom removal to report the assault immediately by calling 101 or reporting the crime online. In case of an emergency, they should call 999.
