Edo Police Probe Kidnapping Allegation Against Officer, Chief

The Edo State Police Command has initiated investigations into allegations of a police officer’s involvement in kidnapping in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area. According to the Commissioner of Police, this probe comes amidst claims implicating a traditional ruler in the incident, which sparked a community protest on Monday.

Reports indicate that vigilantes and hunters engaged a kidnapping gang in a shootout while preventing the abduction of a driver and passengers. During the encounter, one suspect was killed, another was apprehended, and others escaped. The arrested suspect allegedly implicated a police officer from Uromi division and locals as accomplices.

Following these revelations, local youths protested and demanded the arrest of those implicated. The State Police Commissioner assured that the matter is under discreet investigation and emphasized the commitment to uphold the law.

“We are not taking it lightly. The case is under discreet investigation, and whoever is involved will be dealt with according to the law of the land,” he stated, assuring transparency in the investigation process.
