Anambra Clash: One IPOB Member Dead, Three Injured

In Anambra State, security personnel reportedly engaged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) resulting in the death of one alleged member and injuries to three others during an attempt to enforce a sit-at-home order.

The state police command, through its spokesperson Ikenga Tochukwu, stated that the IPOB members were intercepted while riding a motorbike and subsequently opened fire during the encounter. One individual was apprehended, while the other three escaped with bullet wounds, according to Ikenga.

The incident occurred at the Oba flyover in Idemili South Local Government Area, as reported by The Nation. Despite assurances from police and security forces, residents of Anambra chose to remain indoors on Thursday.

Observations revealed deserted roads across the state, from Awka to Onitsha and Nnewi. Construction activities, notably at the flyover connecting Oko, Igboukwu, and Amawbia, were halted as workers abandoned their sites. Furthermore, no markets, shops, or garages operated in Anambra, signaling widespread compliance with the sit-at-home directive.
