In an effort to eliminate misconduct within its ranks, the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police has taken action against officers engaging in unprofessional behavior. State Police Commissioner Aboki Danjuma announced this in response to a video showing a police officer extorting money from motorists.
In a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, on behalf of the Commissioner, the officer identified in the video as Inspector Isong Osudueh, who is attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) in Owerri, was named. Inspector Osudueh was caught extorting money from motorists on the Owerri-Onitsha Express Road.
The Commissioner stated that after appropriate disciplinary proceedings by the police disciplinary committee, Inspector Osudueh would be demoted for his disgraceful and unprofessional conduct. Additionally, the officer in charge of the unit has been summoned for an official inquiry due to a lack of supervision.
“The disciplinary actions taken against the erring officer underscore the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and integrity among its personnel, while effectively discharging its lawful duties and entrenching public trust and confidence,” the PPRO stated.
Okoye maintained that the Command under the watch of the Commissioner was strongly determined to expunge the police of any embarrassing act from any of its officers.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reiterates that the Command under his watch will not condone any act of extortion or misconduct by its personnel and warns that any supervisory officer who fails to carry out his oversight duties will be severely sanctioned,” he added.
