The festivities for the 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) commence on Friday, May 10, 2024, with the Cultural Day event marking the beginning.
This event serves as the official initiation of the activities leading up to the Award Night on Saturday, May 11.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice West Africa conveyed her enthusiasm for the forthcoming occasion, noting the significant growth and acclaim the award ceremony has garnered since its establishment in 2013.
“The 10th edition of the AMVCA represents a significant milestone in our journey to celebrate African talent and creativity,” Tejumola said. “This year’s edition celebrates a decade of excellence in African cinema and television. As we prepare to mark this momentous occasion, we look forward to honouring the incredible contributions of filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals who continue to inspire and entertain audiences across the continent and beyond.”
The 10th AMVCA edition will honour winners across 25 categories, encompassing 16 non-voting and 9 audience voting categories, along with recipients of two distinguished awards – the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards.
Sponsored categories include the Best Lead Actor and Actress categories, backed respectively by Verve and Quickteller. Amstel Malta lends support to Best Movie, Best Digital Content Creator, and Best Indigenous Africa Magic Originals. Martell oversees the Best Director category.
MTN sponsors the Best Short Movie category, and TECNO supports the Best in Cinematography category. Indomie sponsors both the Best Unscripted M-net Original and Best Writing TV Series categories.
The Cultural Day event promises captivating musical performances and cultural showcases. The award night, helmed by the returning IK Osakioduwa, will feature live performances by talented musicians.
Scheduled to air live on May 11 on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, commencing from 4 pm WAT, the Award Night marks the pinnacle of the event.
The 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is presented by Africa Magic in collaboration with MultiChoice, with Amstel as the headline sponsor, and strategic support from Pepsi, Promasidor, and Martell. Other sponsors include TECNO, Hypo, Supa Komando, Interswitch, Tiger Beer, MTN, Indomie, and Nivea.
