10 People Injured As Boeing 737 Skids Off Runway At Senegal Airport

A Boeing 737 plane carrying 85 people skidded off a runway at the airport in Dakar, Senegal’s capital, resulting in about 10 injuries on Wednesday.

The country’s transport minister, Malick Ndiaye, confirmed that the affected aircraft was an Air Sénégal flight operated by TransAir.

The plane was scheduled to fly to Bamako with 79 passengers, two pilots, and four cabin crew. The injured individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment, while the others were provided accommodation in a hotel.

Aviation Safety Network, which tracks airline accidents, posted pictures of the damaged plane surrounded by fire suppressant foam on social media, revealing that one engine broke apart and a wing was also damaged.

Additionally, the family of a Nigerian diplomat killed in the 2019 crash of a Boeing 737 Max in Ethiopia joined litigation against the company in US federal court.

Lawyers representing the heirs of Abiodun Bashua accused Boeing of negligence in the development of the Max. Mr. Bashua, who was 67 years old, had worked for Nigeria’s foreign service and was associated with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa for 40 years.

He was among the 157 people killed when a Max operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa.
