Senator Nwebonyi Advocates for State Police Implementation

Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Nigerian Senate representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, has voiced his support for the proposed implementation of State Police.

During an interview on AIT’s program “Inside Parliament” shortly after the Tuesday, May 7, 2024, plenary session at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Nwebonyi, also a member of the Senate Constitution Review Committee, emphasized the necessity of state police to address the prevalent security challenges across the nation, which appear to have overwhelmed the federal police.

As an astute lawmaker and senior legal practitioner, Nwebonyi stressed the urgency of this measure to alleviate security concerns.

Regarding the proposed increase in electricity tariffs, the federal legislator reiterated his stance against such a move, considering it insensitive amidst the current economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.

Nwebonyi, also serving as the Nigerian representative at the ECOWAS parliament, urged Nigerians to maintain confidence in the administration led by President Tinubu, asserting that the bold economic policies implemented will yield benefits for all citizens in due time.

He expressed optimism that the ongoing constitutional amendment process will address governance gaps, emphasizing the importance of this update as the current constitution originated from a military regime.

Furthermore, Senator Nwebonyi assured Nigerians that the promising outcomes of the 2024 budget will soon be realized nationwide.

“Of course, Nigerians should expect the best. We have passed our budget. Very soon, the proceeds of the budget will start flowing out all towards making Nigerians happy in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu ‘s administration,” he said.
