The traditional leader of Ogbunka community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe John Anyaoha, has bestowed the chieftaincy title of DIke-Ochioha 1 (Great Warrior one) of Ogbunka Kingdom upon the outgoing Commissioner of Police in the state, Aderemi Adeoye, in recognition of his outstanding performance.
Anyaoha conferred the title upon the CP and his wife, Bolanle, who was also honoured with the chieftaincy title of “Adaejiemba ‘N’ Ogbunka kingdom” at his palace on Sunday.
The honour was part of the activities commemorating the CP’s retirement ceremony, which commenced with a pull-out parade at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka on Saturday.
Anyaoha expressed gratitude to Adeoye for his efforts in restoring peace in the Ogbunka community and Anambra State as a whole. He pledged continued collaboration with the police and other security agencies in the state to combat criminal activities.
He said, “The title is to appreciate the CP for what he has done for the people of Ogbunka kingdom, Orumba South Local Government Area and the state as a whole within a short period of eight months in office. I pray God to continue to promote and protect him and his family as he finally retired on May 1, 2024.
“Every good work goes with a good reward. CP Adeoye restored peace in the area after he led a successful security operation that dismantled two major operational camps of the Eastern Security Network, the security wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra in the Area.
“The CP is a good man. His performance was beyond human comprehension. Immediately, he was posted to Anambra state as commissioner of police, and he changed the negative narrative of the security architecture of the state, particularly, in the Orumba South council area.
‘” The honour was also to strengthen the already existing tribal relationship between our people and the Yoruba community in the state.”
While expressing appreciation to the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for endorsing the conferment of the chieftaincy title on the CP, Anyaoha urged the incoming Commissioner of Police not to stray from the security frameworks established by Adeoye to combat kidnappings, insurgency, and other criminal activities across the state’s 21 local government areas.
In response, CP Adeoye expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler and his council for the bestowed honor, emphasizing his commitment to Anambra State, which he considers his second home. He disclosed that aside from having a street named after him, the Anambra State government has also approved the conferment of two chieftaincy titles on him in recognition of his contributions and achievements.
Furthermore, he urged traditional rulers to remain vigilant, collaborate with security agencies, and report any disruptive behavior that could jeopardize peace to the appropriate authorities. Additionally, he encouraged officers of the command to prioritize the protection of citizens’ lives and property over personal gain.
Under CP Adeoye’s leadership in the Ogbunka community, the police command successfully rescued three kidnapped victims, including a reverend father, arrested three suspects, and seized three pump-action guns and nine vehicles stolen at gunpoint.
