The escalating rate of kidnapping incidents involving innocent motorists along the Idodo axis of the Enugu-Abakaliki Express road has raised significant concern and alarm.
Motorists traveling on this route are urging the Ebonyi and Enugu State governments to enhance security measures along the busy highway.
Recently, a staff member of the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki was abducted, prompting family and friends to raise N4 million for his release, according to reports.
It has also been reported that a woman residing at No 10 Bende Street, Kpirikpiri, Abakaliki, the state capital, is currently being held captive by kidnappers.
Motorists are calling on the Enugu State Governor, along with security agencies, to take decisive action to curb these unfortunate incidents along the road.
They cited the successful efforts of former Enugu Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in addressing similar challenges along the Nsukka Opi road and expressed confidence that similar measures can be implemented to improve security along the Enugu-Abakaliki Express road.
