‘Grave offences’: Pope Francis condemns abortion, surrogacy

Pope Francis has strongly criticized abortion and the practice of bearing children through surrogate mothers, describing them as serious violations of human dignity.

In a set of principles released by the Vatican on Monday, the leader of the Catholic Church also condemned gender reassignment and what he referred to as “gender theory.”

The Pope argued that gender theory undermines the inherent dignity bestowed upon human beings by God.

The document asserts that every human being, whether born or unborn, possesses a sacred and inviolable status.

According to the declaration, terminating a pregnancy amounts to nothing less than a denial of human dignity to the most vulnerable individuals.

The Vatican’s recent statement draws a comparison between abortion and surrogacy, where a woman carries a child for someone else and relinquishes it after birth.

It suggests that in such cases, the child is reduced to a mere object, and the dignity of the woman involved is compromised for the sake of financial gain.
