Police neutralise suspected kidnapper in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the neutralization of a suspected kidnapper operating along the Nasarawa-Keffi highway.

Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, revealed this information in a statement issued on Thursday in Lafia.

According to Nansel, the command received a distress call on Wednesday reporting that some criminals had blocked the Nasarawa-Keffi highway with the intention of kidnapping unsuspecting travellers.

”Our personnel in collaboration with the military swiftly went to the scene of the operation.

“On sighting the joint operatives, the criminals opened fire and a gun duel ensued and in the process, one of the hoodlums was fatally wounded and apprehended.

”On realising that one of them had been shut, the others abandoned their mission and scampered for safety due to the superior firepower of the joint security forces.

”The wounded kidnapper was rushed to the General Hospital, Nasarawa, in Nasarawa Local Government Area where he later died while receiving treatment.

“One Ak-47 rifle loaded with eleven rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered from the hoodlum, “he said.

Nansel explained that investigations indicated the kidnappers had initially targeted two sport utility vehicles for abduction.

He emphasized that the prompt action of the combined security forces averted the potential crisis.

He further reassured the public of the police’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the well-being of all road users and residents within the state.
