Way to Go: Nathaniel Bassey Petitions IG for Defamation Amid Allegations of Fathering Mercy Chinwo's Son

Nigerian gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has expressed his dismay over allegations leveled against him by certain individuals on social media. Previously, reports surfaced following Mercy Chinwo and her husband’s revelation of their son’s face during Easter.

While many fans pointed out similarities between the child and Mercy Chinwo’s husband, others falsely claimed Nathaniel Bassey to be the child’s father.

In response to these accusations, the ‘Jesus Iye’ crooner has taken legal action by petitioning the Inspector General of Police. Represented by lawyers from the Fortress Link Law Firm, Nathaniel Bassey has named four social media users—Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, Terrence Ekot, and DJ Spoiltkid—who allegedly propagated these claims.

The legal team asserts they possess evidence supporting Bassey’s innocence. Emphasizing the seriousness of the matter, one of the lawyers highlighted that one individual even circulated a photo of Bassey, falsely implying paternity.

The lawyers have urged law enforcement to intervene, citing provisions within the criminal code. They have submitted comprehensive evidence alongside their petition. It’s worth noting that Nathaniel Bassey previously visited Mercy Chinwo following the birth of her son.
