The Borno State Police Command has apprehended eight individuals believed to be connected to the murder of a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID.
According to ASP Daso Kenneth, the spokesperson for the command, the arrests were made after the Chief Security Officer of the university filed a report.
“He reported to the police station around 6:30 am that a body was found in the office, and identified as Dr. Abdulkadir Kamal.
“Our men swung into action immediately, cordoned off the scene of the crime, and evacuated the body to hospital for autopsy.
“Although we arrested eight suspects who are in our custody, investigations are ongoing to unravel those behind the act,” Kenneth said.
He urged both the individuals within and beyond the university community to remain composed as the police assure of their commitment to apprehend the perpetrators.
Reports indicated that Abdulkadir met his tragic demise on Sunday, when assailants clandestinely entered his office and assaulted him with a knife and hammer.
The university’s spokesperson, Prof. Danjuma Gambo, disclosed that Abdulkadir, who served in the Department of Physical Health Education, was fatally attacked in his office on Sunday evening.
When questioned about a potential correlation between his murder and his role as the examination officer, the university’s spokesperson emphasized that full authorization has been granted to the police and other security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation and provide an exhaustive report concerning the incident and its motives.
