The Akwa-Ibom State Police Command has thwarted the activities of three suspected armed robbers and apprehended one individual in the act of robbing at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Hall/National Museum located in Ikot Inyang village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.

This information was conveyed in a statement released by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Odiko Macdon, and distributed to the press in Uyo on Tuesday.

Macdon reported that on March 20, operatives from the command’s Crack Team of Ikot Ekpene Division promptly responded to a distress call, engaging approximately 10 armed robbers in a confrontation. As a result, three of the assailants were neutralized during the exchange of gunfire.

“In compliance with the CP’s directive, on March 20, a crack team from Ikot Ekpene division responded to a distress call, and engaged armed robbers, numbering about 10, who were robbing at NDDC Hall/National Museum, Ikot Inyang village and environs.

“In the ensuing gun duel, three of the suspects were neutralised while one was arrested and others escaped with bullet wounds.

“A locally-made pistol, one expanded and one live cartridge were recovered. Also recovered were vandalised wire cables, among other items.

“The gang is said to be responsible for robberies around Ikot Ekpene and environs,” he said.

Macdon further stated that the command, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, took the fight to the criminal elements’ hideouts and brought them to book, for a peaceful Akwa Ibom.

He warned those engaged in armed robbery, kidnappings and other violent crimes to be ready to bear the consequences if they do not desist forthwith.
