The Nigerian Army conducted a targeted raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Zamtip Village in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, based on actionable intelligence.
According to a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, troops successfully apprehended one criminal during the operation. Another attempted to evade arrest and fatally shot himself.
During the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, 5 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 2 empty cases of 7.62mm, 3 sim cards, and one Jackknife from the criminals.
In a separate incident in Zamfara State, troops swiftly responded to a distress call, thwarting the abduction of three individuals by violent extremists on the outskirts of Kwatarkwashi Village in Gusau LGA.
The extremists were engaged in a shootout and were forced to abandon their victims, who were rescued by the troops. One victim sustained injuries and has been evacuated to a hospital, while efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
Additionally, in response to intelligence reports indicating the establishment of a new camp by IPOB/ESN militants in Ihiteukwa community, Orsu LGA of Imo State, troops conducted a sting operation on Monday. They engaged the militants in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of one militant, while others fled.
Maj.-Gen Nwachukwu emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.
“We sincerely extend our gratitude to vigilant members of the public, whose cooperation remains instrumental in ongoing efforts to combat insurgency, terrorism and sundry criminality across the nation,” he added.
