The Labour Party (LP) has warned that it may declare vacant the seats of Enugu State lawmakers intending to switch allegiance to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Casmir Agbo, the Enugu State LP Chairman, issued this ultimatum on Tuesday via a post on his Facebook page.
Given that the State government is presently under the control of the Peoples Democratic Party, which emerged victorious in the March 18 gubernatorial election, there are ongoing political maneuvers with certain members of the house contemplating a shift to the ruling PDP.
However, Agbo asserted that the party is cognizant of the actions of some LP members in the House of Assembly who are considering defection to the PDP.
” We are aware of the antics of some LP members of HOA who want to decamp to PDP. Their seats will be declared vacant,” he said.
It was reported that the PDP controls the leadership of the State legislature even though it produced fewer seats in the house.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had in its released list after the 2023 general election said the party secured 14 seats out of the 24 seats.
INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Enugu State, Rex Achumie, issued the list detailing the names, constituencies, parties and number of votes scored by the members-elect at the March 18 election.
According to the commission, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has the remaining 10 seats.
