Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Sunday, March 10, asserted that no Nigerian should be held in captivity. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker strongly denounced the recent mass abduction of students in Sokoto state by suspected bandits.
Expressing his dismay, the Speaker deemed it unacceptable that another incident of schoolchildren abduction occurred within a week following similar occurrences in Borno and Kaduna States. Abbas Tajudeen urged the military and other security agencies to actively pursue the abductors and ensure the prompt rescue of the victims.
“We must collectively rise to the occasion and stem the tide of abductions, especially of women and children, at a time when the government is making efforts to address the high rate of out-of-school children.
“The schools must be safe for our children. Our security agencies need to act fast,” Speaker Abbas said.
About 15 pupils were reportedly abducted from an Islamic school in Gidan Bakuso, Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday.
