Abuja warehouse looting criminal, says FCT Minister

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has condemned the looting of a warehouse in the Gwagwa-Tasha area of the nation’s capital, stating that the incident goes beyond hunger and is purely criminal in nature.

Following her assessment visit to Gwagwa-Tasha to gauge the extent of the warehouse damage, the minister expressed dismay at the unfortunate events. She observed that the hoodlums not only plundered all the grains and food items but also vandalized the roofs and fence surrounding the facility.

Expressing disappointment at the behavior of the youths in the area, Dr. Mahmoud reassured the public that the Administration would take decisive action to address such incidents in the future. As part of these measures, she announced plans to establish police posts in all government warehouses across the territory to enhance security and deter criminal activities.

”We are here due to the unfortunate incident that happened early hours of yesterday, where hoodlums attacked this very warehouse and packed everything, including non-food items.

“Not only the food items that are here, including the roofing, windows, and even the gates of this place and offices were all attacked. You can see the level of damage. There is nothing that is left here, including machineries that were used for the processing of these things,” she said.

She said the incident happened when the administration was restocking with a view to meeting up with the directive of President Bola Tinubu to distribute palliatives to all the six area councils in FCT.
