The Jigawa State government has officially acknowledged the occurrence of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in six local government areas within the state.
Dr. Shehu Sambo, the State Director of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHC), made this revelation during the commencement of the 2024 Polio eradication campaign at the palace of the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Nuhu, on Saturday.
He said, “An outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis cases has been recorded in some local government areas of this state.”
According to him “the local government areas are sharing direct boarder with the Niger republic”.
The affected areas encompass Babura, Birniwa, Malam Madori, Maigari, Kaugama, and Suletankarkar local government areas. Sambo emphasized that the identified cases have been contained in these specific regions, with medical teams dispatched to initiate immunization efforts among the targeted population.
As a precautionary measure, he advised individuals to sleep in well-ventilated rooms and avoid overcrowding.
