Meningitis outbreak hits Bauchi

The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA) has verified the occurrence of a meningitis outbreak in the state.

An official from the agency, who spoke anonymously during an interview with our correspondent on Thursday, disclosed that six cases of cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) have been documented thus far.

The official shared that proactive measures have been implemented to contain the spread of the disease in the state. These measures specifically target potential outbreaks, especially in local government areas (LGAs) bordering Yobe State, such as Gamawa, Dambam, Zaki, Katagum, and other areas in Itas/Gadau.

As part of the proactive strategy, the official mentioned that contact tracing within the communities has been initiated to identify any victims, allowing for prompt treatment, isolation, and proper monitoring and evaluation.
