The Senate has granted President Bola Tinubu’s request to remove the Executive Vice-Chair of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Babatunde Irukera.
Tinubu’s letter, which cited inefficiency as the reason for the dismissal, was read during the plenary on Wednesday by Senate President GodsWill Akpabio.
As per the FCCPC Act, the President requires the National Assembly’s approval to terminate the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Commission. Notably, Tinubu had previously dismissed Irukera and the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Alexander Okoh, in January, with immediate effect.
Following deliberations, the request underwent a voice vote, with the majority in favor, and the Senate President concluded the proceedings by wielding the gavel.
