The Nigerian government has confirmed ongoing discussions with the organizers of the American Grammy Awards to create an African version.
Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, revealed this information in a conversation with Vanguard on Tuesday.
Emphasizing Nigeria’s status as the birthplace of Afrobeats, she asserted that the country should be recognized as a founding member of the African Grammys.
Musawa further revealed that other African nations, including Rwanda, South Africa, and Kenya, are leading efforts to establish an African edition of the prestigious music awards.
