In Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, reports indicate that two more individuals have lost their lives, while several others sustained gunshot injuries in recent clashes between rival cult groups. The fatal clashes occurred in various parts of Abeokuta over the weekend, adding to the earlier reported incidents where two suspected cultists lost their lives.
The ongoing violence involves members of Aiye, Eiye, and Buccaneer confraternities, leading to a reign of terror in the state capital. The turbulent period began last Thursday with the killing of a well-known suspected cultist named Oloba, followed by the death of Tayo Alora on Sunday.
Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed these incidents in an interview. Odutola disclosed that two more individuals lost their lives in the recent clashes.
Seun Elewode, identified as a member of the Aiye cult group, was killed during a shootout between rival cult groups in the Adeun area of Lafenwa, Abeokuta. Additionally, a suspected member of the Buccaneer confraternity was killed in the Akinolugbade area of the town.
“One Seun Elewode, a notorious member of the Aiye cult group who just returned from prison was attacked and shot dead at Adeun, Lafenwa, in Abeokuta.
“He was shot dead during a shoot out at their hideout in a cool spot during a birthday party.
“On February 4, around 10:45 pm in Oshungboye crescent in Akinolugbade, a suspected cultist was shot dead, while another was shot in the chest,” Odutola said.
She, however, added that 11 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings.
She listed those arrested to include: Oluga Abiola, Olamilekan Abiodun, Olarenwaju Michael, Jimoh Okewole, Wasu Tolulope, Abiodun Adeyemi, Muiz Adeyemi, Adebowale Saheed, Adebowale Ayoola, David Oviem and Adebowale Olayori.
