Uzodimma condemns explosion in Ohaji, mourns victims

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, expressed condemnation on Friday for a pipeline explosion in the Ohaji area of the state that resulted in the loss of five lives. In a statement delivered by his Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku, the governor expressed regret over the loss of lives and underscored the State government’s concern about the recurring issue of pipeline vandalism in the area.

Security reports revealed that suspected vandals targeted oil pipelines at Obitti Rubber Estate in Ohaji, attempting to siphon the product into a waiting truck, which resulted in an explosion. Five individuals engaged in the illegal oil bunkering were burnt beyond recognition.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized that the State cannot afford continuous economic sabotage due to the activities of illegal oil bunkering. Besides the tragic loss of lives, pipeline vandalism has significantly impacted the State’s economy.

While offering condolences to the families affected by the incident, the governor urged the youths in the area to refrain from such illegal activities. He issued a directive to security agencies to take decisive action to curb, if not entirely eradicate, this menace.

Governor Uzodimma assured that his administration would continue to undertake necessary measures to protect oil pipelines traversing Imo State.
