AFCON 2023: Why Eagles are soaring- Omeruo

In the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has shared insights into why the team has performed admirably in the tournament.

Despite the recent 1-0 victory against Angola that secured their spot in the semifinals, Omeruo, who was brought in by coach Jose Peseiro during stoppage time to replace Ademola Lookman, emphasized the team’s continued focus.

Nigeria’s success in the match marked their fourth consecutive win without conceding a goal, yet Omeruo remains grounded, refusing to be overly optimistic about their performance in the competition.

Omeruo told reporters in the mixed zone: “I feel good; there is still work to be done, but I’m happy we could win this game because there was a lot of talk from the media and all, but we stayed concentrated. We kept to our game plan, and at the end of the day, we won.”

Asked why the team is doing well so far, the Turkey-based defender said, “The unity between us and the tactics of the coach.”
