Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, made this disclosure during a visit by the ICRC team to the NAF headquarters in Abuja. According to a statement on Tuesday by the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Abubakar commended the ICRC for its support in providing research and training assistance in various operational theaters and collaborations.

It partly read, “The Chief of the Air Staff, extended his gratitude for ICRC’s substantial contributions to NAF’s activities. He specifically noted the impactful role played by ICRC in areas of humanitarian assistance, training, and research in operational theatres, units, colleges, and training institutions.

Air Marshal Abubakar echoed the sentiments of collaboration and cooperation and reiterated NAF’s readiness to engage with ICRC and other organisations in ensuring adherence to humanitarian laws while executing operations.

The ICRC team led by Mr Yann Bonzon, said the collaboration between his organisation and NAF was to ensure individuals who are affected by armed conflicts are treated with dignity.

“Yann disclosed that the ongoing collaboration between the NAF and ICRC reflects a shared commitment to upholding humanitarian values and ensuring the humane treatment of individuals impacted by armed conflicts. He also noted that the dialogue between the two organizations serves as a testament to their dedication to advancing humanitarian efforts and fostering a culture of respect for human rights amid the challenges posed by conflict situations, ” the statement added.

The International Humanitarian Laws, also known as the laws of war or the law of armed conflict, are a set of legal principles and rules that regulate the conduct of armed conflicts.

The ICRC has been collaborating with armed forces worldwide to ensure the lives and dignity of those affected by war and internal violence are protected.
