The House of Assembly in Rivers State, led by Martins Amaewhule, requested the nine commissioner-nominees to take a bow and go during their appearance for screening and confirmation on Wednesday, January 17. The plenary session took place at the new Hallowed chamber of the House situated in the Legislative Quarters, Off PH/Aba Expressway, Port Harcourt.
Amaewhule informed the House about the letter from Governor Siminalayi Fubara, dated December 11, 2023, requesting the screening and confirmation of the commissioner-nominees. This letter put to rest earlier speculations regarding the nominees’ list, dismissing doubts about the authenticity of the governor’s request.
Following the reading of the letter, the Majority Leader of the House, Major Jack, proposed a motion to allow the nominees to take a bow and go. He argued that since the nominees had undergone screening and confirmation previously, repeating the same process was unnecessary. The motion received support from the deputy speaker, Dumle Maol, and the House granted the nominees the opportunity to take a bow and go.
With the screening and confirmation process concluded, it is anticipated that the nominees will be sworn in and assigned their initial portfolios before the week’s end.
