Today, under the leadership of Martins Amaewhule, the Rivers State House of Assembly is set to conduct a reevaluation and confirmation process for nine Commissioner nominees.
These Commissioners had previously resigned from their positions amid the political turmoil involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and a faction of the Assembly led by Amaewhule.
The Assembly’s decision aligns with the eight-point resolutions agreed upon by Fubara, Wike, and key leaders following the state’s political crisis, following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu. One of the resolutions stipulates the reappointment of Commissioners who had resigned.
It remains uncertain whether the governor has submitted the names of the Commissioners to the Assembly for screening and confirmation, or if the Assembly members are independently taking action.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara recently inaugurated 16 new Permanent Secretaries to oversee administrative responsibilities in the ministries, “pending when the ministries might have a political head.” The governor clarified that their appointments were not politically motivated.
