Breaking: S’Court reserves judgment in Nasarawa gov poll

The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, deferred judgment on the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision to reinstate Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.

A five-member panel, presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, reserved judgment after hearing arguments from the counsel involved in the appeal. Justice Kekere-Ekun announced that the parties would be informed once the judgment is ready.

Previously, the state election petition tribunal had removed the governor, declaring David Ombugadu, the PDP candidate, as the winner of the March 18, 2023, election. The tribunal, led by Ezekiel Ajayi, concluded in a split decision that the PDP candidate substantiated claims of manipulated poll results favoring Sule.

However, the Court of Appeal reinstated Sule, contending that the tribunal had wrongly relied on the evidence of eight PDP witnesses, whose statements were not included with the initial petition. In response, Ombugadu appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.
