Edo 2024: Olumide Akpata, our guy for growth and prosperity

During a recent tour spanning the 18 local government areas (LGAs) of Edo State, Olumide Akpata, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and a prominent gubernatorial aspirant of the Labour Party, sparked discussions by highlighting the imperative for a paradigm shift in how politicians engage with constituents during festive seasons and beyond.

Akpata, while not discouraging citizens from accepting gifts from politicians, asserted that the traditional practice of distributing rice as a strategy for political allegiance and support has proven ineffective in Edo State. He emphasized that this approach has not yielded the desired results, as evident from the absence of aspirants who solely relied on such tactics to secure governmental positions. Instead, Akpata underscored the importance of addressing the multifaceted challenges confronting the state and electing individuals capable of effecting positive change.

Challenging the State, local government, and ward executives of the Labour Party in the 18 LGAs of Edo state, Akpata urged them to remain focused on the impending gubernatorial elections, emphasizing that the critical issues facing the state should be the primary focus. The call to move beyond symbolic activities like rice distribution reflects a desire for more meaningful contributions toward addressing the challenges and priorities of the state’s citizens.

By advocating for a shift away from traditional or symbolic gestures, Akpata is signaling the need for a more active and purposeful engagement on issues that have a lasting impact on the well-being of the people. This approach suggests a commitment to meaningful, strategic, and results-oriented actions.

Akpata made it clear that Edo State, like many parts of the country, requires a holistic and enduring strategy for development. He emphasized the need to prioritize fundamental needs that have a lasting impact on the well-being of the residents.

The state is grappling with numerous challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, high unemployment rates, educational deficiencies, limited healthcare access, hindered agricultural productivity, security concerns, environmental issues, political tensions, electricity supply inconsistencies, and poorly maintained roads. These challenges demand urgent attention and comprehensive strategies to foster sustainable development and enhance the well-being of the populace.

As a gubernatorial aspirant on the Labour Party platform in Edo State, Akpata envisions transforming the state into a model of sustainable prosperity. His vision prioritizes economic diversification, job creation, quality education, accessible healthcare, robust infrastructure, environmental sustainability, transparent governance, social welfare, and security.

Through these key priorities, Akpata aims to build a lasting legacy of inclusive growth, innovation, and prosperity for all residents of Edo State. His proven leadership qualities, exemplified during his tenure as the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, demonstrate his commitment to excellence, justice, and accountability.

Akpata’s candidacy is distinguished by his transparent and accountable approach to governance, aligning with the expectations of the electorate in an era where these values are paramount. His active engagement with the community and the party showcases his understanding of local issues and a genuine connection to the people.

Akpata, known as ‘Our Guy,’ signifies transparency, accountability, and good governance. His unwavering commitment to these principles instills trust and positions him as a leader capable of steering Edo State towards a brighter future.

In this pivotal moment, rallying behind ‘Our Guy,’ Olumide Akpata, is an expression of confidence in his leadership, ensuring the continuation of the Nigerian Bar Association’s legacy and elevating the state to new heights. Together, with Akpata at the helm of governance in Edo State, a future defined by progress, integrity, and a shared vision for a better tomorrow awaits.
