The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has purportedly been summoned by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in connection to an alleged N483 million contract fraud at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Reports indicate that New Planet Projects, a company founded by the minister, received a consultancy contract from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation during Betta Edu’s tenure before her suspension.
Despite Tunji-Ojo’s claim of resigning as the director of the company on a separate platform, the issue has generated public concern, prompting calls for an inquiry.
In a letter addressed to Tunji-Ojo, the CCB has requested his presence for an investigation on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the CCB Headquarters, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja. The letter, signed by Gwimi S.P., the Director of Investigation and Monitoring, was on behalf of CCB Chairman Murtala Aliyu.
“The Bureau is investigating a case of alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers in which your name featured prominently. Consequently, you are invited for an interview scheduled as follows:
“Date: Tuesday, January 16 January, 2024. Time: 1100 hrs prompt. Venue: CCB Headquarters on 5th floor, Annex III, Phase I, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja.
“This invitation is under the mandate and powers of the Bureau as enshrined in the Third Schedule, Part I, Paragraph 3 (e) to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. Please be properly guided,” the letter reads.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Betta Edu over alleged N585 million corruption a week ago.
