FG disburses N105.5bn for 260 roads repairs nationwide

The Nigerian government has allocated N217 billion for urgent repairs on 260 roads spanning all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and has already disbursed N108.5 billion for this purpose.

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, disclosed this during a meeting with the Ministry’s directors in Abuja. Umahi emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure investment by releasing these funds and stressed the need for effective road repairs without any room for excuses.

The allocated funds have been directed towards various crucial projects such as resurfacing the Third Mainland Bridge, constructing the Lekki Deep Seaport road, addressing two collapsed bridges in Enugu, and resolving issues along the Onitsha-Owerri Road.

Moreover, the government has sanctioned additional road constructions, including the enhancement of the ongoing Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia road and the dualization of the Lafia by-pass, among others.

This initiative was set in motion in October 2023 when the Ministry proposed swift rehabilitation for 260 critically deteriorated road projects nationwide. The government swiftly approved this plan two weeks later.

“The President has approved over 260 road interventions across the 36 states and the FCT,”

“I am pleased to announce that 50 per cent of the palliative works for the year 2023 have been released to the Ministry. The pressure was already on me, so I even had to resume early”, he said.
