The Rivers State Police Command has verified an assault on commuters along the Port Harcourt International Airport Road in Omuagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area. Several travelers were abducted during this incident.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command Public Relations Officer, clarified to reporters that contrary to initial reports of eight individuals being kidnapped, the unfortunate event involved three persons.
SP Iringe-Koko disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the tactical team Commander and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to heighten security measures and ensure the swift arrest of the criminals.
According to reports, individuals suspected to be Fulani herdsmen abducted about eight people near the Port Harcourt International Airport Roundabout in Rivers State. The criminals obstructed the road leading from the airport, a short distance from the roundabout.
The victims were reportedly traveling from the airport towards the Obiri-Ikwerre area when they were ambushed by the bandits. Approximately ten vehicles were involved, and those unable to flee the scene were taken captive.
Emmanuel Biira, one of the victims who managed to escape the abduction, recounted that three individuals were taken from his car. Tragically, one of them was shot in the head before being abducted.
