Diri hosts Fubara, sues for peace in Rivers

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has appealed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State to take decisive steps toward restoring peace in Rivers, emphasizing that sustained peace is crucial for rapid development.

During Fubara’s inaugural visit to his country home in Sampou, Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, accompanied by high-ranking government officials, Diri underscored the significance of tranquility in fostering progress. He stressed that without a peaceful environment, meaningful development remains unattainable.

Highlighting the enduring fraternal bond between Rivers and Bayelsa, Diri expressed deep concern over the political unrest in Rivers. He revealed his efforts behind the scenes to facilitate peace restoration in the state, cautioning against interpreting the crisis through ethnic lenses. Diri emphasized the shared heritage between the Ikwerre of Rivers and the Ijaw of both Rivers and Bayelsa, advocating against any conflict between these kin.

The governor urged restraint, advising Fubara to maintain tolerance and patience while prioritizing the delivery of development to the people of Rivers State. Diri extended a warm embrace for enhanced collaboration with the Rivers governor, welcoming Fubara’s willingness to seek a cordial resolution to the legal dispute between their respective states.
