The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Command, reported a revenue generation of N52.7 billion for the year 2023.
Comptroller Ibrahim Chana, the Area Controller of the command, revealed this information in a statement released on Thursday in Lagos. He highlighted that the revenue marked a significant increase of 26.4 percent compared to the N41.7 billion collected in 2022.
Chana noted the commendable performance of the command in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations throughout the past year, particularly in comparison to the achievements of 2022.
He attributed this success to the command’s emphasis on fostering voluntary compliance among stakeholders, achieved through consistent sensitization efforts and proactive engagement with the business communities in Kano and Jigawa states.
“Vigorous enforcement actions by men of the command have resulted in several seizures, which contributed in suppression of smuggling in the two states.
“Some of the seizures made were handed over to sister government agencies which the command has been cooperating with in the spirit of inter agency collaboration,” he said.
Chana, however, praised the various organisations for their support to the service.
