In the ratified 2024 budget, the Ministry of Defence received the largest allocation, totaling N1.3 trillion. The increase in the appropriation bill, approved by both chambers of the National Assembly on Saturday, amounted to an additional N1.2 trillion beyond President Bola Tinubu’s proposed budget.
Abubakar Bichi, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, revealed in a press briefing after a special session that the augmentation of N1.2 trillion was necessitated by inflationary pressures and commitments from Government Owned Enterprises (GOEs) to boost their revenue.
