Jigawa police arrest 26 for alleged phone snatching, others

The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended 26 individuals for suspected involvement in phone snatching, theft, burglary, and drug-related offenses within the state.

According to DSP Lawan Shiisu, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, this development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday from Dutse.

Shiisu highlighted that the arrests were a result of operations carried out between December 18 and December 19 across four local government areas in the state.

The spokesperson detailed that among those apprehended, a teenager was detained in Babura town, Babura LGA, for alleged phone snatching and a theft amounting to N10,000. Additionally, two other suspects were captured in Hadejia over the alleged theft of six laptop computers and a motorbike.

Furthermore, in Kazaure, a suspect was arrested for purportedly stealing two air conditioners. The police also apprehended 22 other suspects during raids conducted at hideouts linked to criminal activities in Kiyawa, Burnin Kudu, and Maigatari LGAs between December 17 and December 21.

Shiisu emphasized that during these operations, law enforcement recovered items including a motorcycle, packs of Cannabis Sativa, and various narcotic substances.

“The command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmadu Abdullahi, is warning criminal elements to either repent or stay away from the state.

“As it has since embarked on simultaneous raids on all the identified black spots and criminal hideouts across the state,” he said.

This, he said, would build confidence among residents so that they could go about their lawful businesses and sleep with their two eyes closed.

According to him, the suspects will be charged in court on completion of investigations.
