Lt-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), expressed that the peace prevailing in the nation has been dearly bought with the blood, sacrifices, and limbs of military personnel. Lagbaja conveyed this sentiment during the 2023 COAS Christmas Carol event, held at the Mogadishu Cantonment Parade Ground in Abuja, to honor and express gratitude to God for the passing year.
He emphasized the vigilance of military men and women who tirelessly stand as guardians of the land, enabling people to rest peacefully at night.
“For our warriors in the frontlines and their families back in our rear units, I must say I quite understand what you feel at this season because I have served in many of our theatres of operations, and I have been away from my family and loved ones.
“In times like this, I understand the loneliness our military families endure and the homesickness our troops in the frontlines battle,” he said.
The COAS highlighted the purpose of the Christmas carol, describing it as an occasion to offer praises to God, reflect on His teachings, and collectively express gratitude for the year gone by.
He elaborated on the unique significance of the Christmas season, emphasizing its symbolism and importance.
