Nasarawa police ban sale, use of knockouts, fireworks

On Wednesday, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, issued a prohibition against the sale and unauthorized use of all fireworks, including knockouts, within the state.

The ban was communicated through a statement released by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel.

The PPRO emphasized the necessity of the ban due to the inherent dangers linked to the sale and unauthorized utilization of these products, citing their association with criminal activities. He highlighted how criminal elements have exploited fireworks to carry out unlawful acts, causing tension within the state. Additionally, the PPRO pointed out the significant risk of injuries and fire outbreaks associated with fireworks.

“The Commissioner of Police, therefore, warns dealers and users of knockouts to desist forthwith and urges parents/guardians to discourage their children and wards from buying and igniting fireworks as anyone caught would be made to face the full weight of the law”, the statement added.
