The 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have retracted their impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as disclosed in the withdrawal notice presented on the house floor during Wednesday’s session.
Their decision stemmed from their acknowledgment and respect for President Bola Tinubu, who recently facilitated a reconciliation meeting between the conflicting factions.
In the House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday morning, the 26 lawmakers aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike announced the withdrawal.
Reports indicate that President Tinubu intervened on Monday, mediating a peace agreement between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.
Allegedly, the tension in the state arose from a power struggle between the governor and Wike, who presently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
