Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has put an end to the “Generate and Utilize” practice across Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and Tertiary Institutions to curb financial leakages in the state.
He made this announcement while presenting the 2024 budget proposal to the State House of Assembly in Minna.
According to him, “The move was adopted to block leakages and intensify internally generated revenue through self-sufficiency and accountability of all revenue receipts by MDAs.”
Identifying himself as the ‘Farmer Governor,’ Bago outlined the key areas of focus for the 2024 budget. These include Urban Renewal, Rural Transformation, Security, Infrastructural Development, Agriculture, Food Security, Education, Healthcare, Water, Sanitation, Women, Children, Environmental Sustainability, and Support for People with Special Needs and the Elderly.
Furthermore, he mentioned the naming of the newly established Niger State University of Education after the late Engr Abdullahi Abdulkadir Kure, a former Governor of Niger State. This decision reflects a tribute to Kure’s legacy and contribution to the state.
