Akin Olateru, the former Director-General of the Nigerians Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), revealed that his commitment to his job led to the breakdown of his marriage.
During a brief handover ceremony to the new DG, Mr. Alex Badeh Jnr, Olateru disclosed on Monday that the demands of his role were extremely challenging. He expressed the difficulties of the job and mentioned not feeling envious of the new appointee taking over his position.
Initially appointed as Commissioner of the now-defunct Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) in January 2017, Olateru witnessed its transformation into NSIB, tasked with investigating accidents across various transport sectors.
President Bola Tinubu dismissed Olateru last week, immediately naming Badeh as his successor.
At the ceremony, Olateru noted that despite leaving NSIB in a better state than when he started, the sacrifices he made for the job took a toll on his personal life, resulting in the dissolution of his marriage.
