Bandits kill Zamfara lecturer after collecting N2m ransom

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have tragically killed a lecturer from Zamfara State College of Education, Maru, identified as Nasiru Mohammed Anka, after receiving a ransom of N2 million for his release.

The incident unfolded three weeks ago when Anka was abducted from his residence in Maru town, situated within Maru Local Government Area of the state, during an attack by the bandits. Reports indicate that the lecturer was taken along with several other residents during the raid.

Usman Ibrahim, a resident of the area, confirmed the lecturer’s unfortunate demise. He relayed that a woman, also abducted separately by the gunmen but managed to escape weeks later, disclosed details of Anka’s death.

According to her account, Nasiru Muhammad Anka was subjected to torture by the bandits in their camp after his family couldn’t meet the demanded ransom for his release. Tragically, he was killed in her presence.

The woman further revealed that taking advantage of a moment when the bandits were inebriated and asleep, she managed to escape. She recounted that two days after Anka’s death, the bandits attempted to mutilate his body, but stopped upon finding that it had already decomposed significantly.

“The bandits kept telling him that his people have money, if they love him they should bring the money or they kill him, and that was how they killed him after collecting the N2 million that they claimed was not enough or up to their target,” the woman said.

The spokesman of the Zamfara State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abdulahi, could not be reached for comments.
