The reconstruction of the State House of Assembly building on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, has commenced by the Rivers State Government. According to a government source, this project is being executed by the state authorities.
This initiative follows the recent burning down of the assembly’s chambers by unidentified political thugs, which had caused a significant disruption. Notably, the state legislature has been embroiled in a serious crisis triggered by some lawmakers’ attempt to impeach Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Starting as early as 5 a.m. on Wednesday, more than 10 bulldozers, excavators, and heavy-duty machinery were deployed to the assembly complex. The demolition work began around 7:30 a.m. and is currently ongoing.
