Police arrest man for killing mother, sister in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has apprehended a young man accused of murdering his mother, Mrs. Charity Orji, and his sister, Miss Ukamaka Orji, before burying them in a shallow grave within their garden.

The suspect, identified as Somadina Orji from Igboariam in Anambra State, reportedly committed the crime on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Umuagu Inyi in the Oji River Local Government Area.

Multiple accounts and video evidence of the incident suggest that the late Charity, who was originally from Inyi but married in Igboariam, Anambra State, had been residing in her family home with her children for an extended period.

Reports indicate that her son, allegedly involved in the narcotics trade, had ongoing disputes with her regarding his behavior, leading to the tragic act.

However, Mr. Ben Obi, a community leader in Inyi, revealed to journalists that the tensions escalated weeks ago following a conflict between the suspect and his younger brother.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect had been apprehended, and investigations were ongoing. Ndukwe assured that once the investigation concluded, the suspect would be arraigned in court.

“The suspect has been arrested, and the case is under investigation. The suspect would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded,” he said.
