The seven abducted students from the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, have been liberated.
Reports revealed armed individuals invaded the Gandu community, situated approximately two kilometers from the university, on Thursday morning, and abducted the students, relocating them to an undisclosed location.
Confirming the students’ release to journalists in Lafia on Monday, the institution’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Abubakar Ibrahim, disclosed that the students regained their freedom around 8 pm on Sunday.
“Yes, the students have regained their freedom and they have been reunited with their families after medical examination and counselling”, Abubakar said.
Ibrahim added that all the students had been reunited with their families after undergoing medical examinations and counselling.
The spokesperson also disclosed that the institution in collaboration with the state government and law enforcement agencies had beefed up security in and around the university to avert a recurrence of the incident.
Meanwhile, when contacted to get the reaction of the Nasarawa State Police Command on the matter, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the command was not informed about the kidnap or release of the students.
