We’ll make Tinubu our hero if he releases Kanu – Igbo youths

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, expressed that if President Bola Tinubu were to release Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, he would be hailed as a hero by their youth-based Igbo interest group.

In a press release penned by its President-General, Goodluck Ibem, the group highlighted Tinubu’s past commitment to upholding the rule of law and honoring court orders. They noted his previous involvement in NADECO and his fight against military dictatorship, indicating his historical support for legal principles and respect for judicial decisions.

“The entire South East geopolitical zone is waiting earnestly to receive their son Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as the Supreme Court decides on his matter come 15 December 2023.

“The apex sociopolitical youth group in the South East geopolitical zone calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be a Hero by releasing the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody.

“We will celebrate President Tinubu for upholding the rule of law and respecting the Court judgment releasing Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody.

“The unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu will prove that President Tinubu says and stand by what he professes and fought for in the past during the military era.”

The group said it is sure that if Nnamdi Kanu is released, the insecurity in the South East will be a thing of the past.

Kanu has been in detention for over two years since his arrest in Kenya in 2021, and his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria, despite court orders for his release.

He had earlier been granted bail in 2017 but failed to honour his court appearance as he was alleged to have jumped bail.
